5 picture books I'm looking forward to this Fall...

1. Robot Zot by Jon Scieszka (Sept. 22)
In my eyes, Jon Scieszka can do no wrong. This looks super fun and illustrated by David Shannon? What a treat!

2. Skippyjon Jones: Lost in Spice by Judy Schachner (Sept. 22)

Another adventure with El Skippito! Who knew Mars is red because it's covered in red pepper?

3. Who Wants to Be a Poodle? I Don't! by Lauren Child (Sept. 22)
I'm a fan of Lauren Child's Charlie and Lola stories, but I'm excited to see something different. I love her illustrations!

4. Merry Christmas Splat! by Rob Scotton (Sept. 22)
Almost everyone can identify with the anticipation of Santa's arrival and wondering if he'll bring you a really big present.

5. Fancy Nancy: Splendiferous Christmas by Jane O'Connor (Nov. 3)
I'm sure Nancy will see that her family spends the holidays in style. I'm guessing she'll also show off her great vocabulary as usual.

Shiver - Teen Novel

If you enjoyed Twilight, this is a MUST READ! I'm even going to go as far as to say that I actually like it better (gasp!). AND it is expected to be a trilogy, which means there will be more to look forward to...

Shiver is the story of a girl named Grace and her wolf, but she has recently discovered that he is not JUST a wolf. He is also a boy, Sam. The werewolves in this paranormal romance are different from what you might expect. Their change is not dictated by the moon, but rather, temperature: wolves in colder months and humans in the warmer months. Sam senses his final change is near and Grace struggles to keep him warm, human. I couldn't put it down!

Regarding the Fountain - Beginning Reader

Dry Creek Middle School's drinking fountain has sprung a leak and Sam N.'s fifth grade class enlists the expertise of the fabulous Florence Waters (Flo for short) to design a new one. After they request a catalog, she explains that all of her fountains are custom made and asks for the kids' ideas. You'll be amazed what they come up with! Along the way, they uncover a terrible secret involving a nasty school board member and a water company executive that could potentially prevent the installation of their spectacular new fountain. Written in the form of letters, faxes, memos and newspaper clippings this fast and lighthearted read is perfect for reluctant readers.

Elephant and Piggie - Easy Readers

My favorite easy reader series has to Mo Willems' Elephant and Piggie series. The text is simple enough for beginning readers but uses real, natural language, which is a plus. They are tons of fun and will make even adults laugh! I especially love There Is a Bird on Your Head! and Today I Will Fly!
